UPSC Drug Inspector Exam Pattern: What the Paper Actually Looks Like
One objective paper decides the shortlist. Here is its exact structure — and, more usefully, the measured weightage of every syllabus head across the real previous papers, which is what should decide where your revision hours go.

Measured weightage — from the papers, not the syllabus
The official syllabus lists thirteen heads but says nothing about how often each is asked. We tagged every question in the recovered previous papers (2011, 2015, 2016, 2023) to its head. This is what came out:

Each head links to its full syllabus page with explained practice questions. The three technical giants — chemistry, dosage forms, analysis — plus pharmacokinetics account for roughly two-thirds of the paper.
What the marking scheme means for strategy
With four options and a one-third penalty, blind guessing is exactly break-even — and eliminating a single option makes attempting profitable. The full expected-value table, and the one rule worth memorising, is in the negative-marking guide.
Note the contrast with GPAT, which awards +4/−1 — there, guessing is always EV-positive. If you prepare for both exams, your attempt strategy must flip between them.
